City To Scripps Ranch: No Ambulance

Dear Friends and Neighbors,
In a just-released statement from the Mayor's office, Deputy Fire Chief Rod
Ballard has declined our community's request for an ambulance at Station 37.
In a letter sent to me via e-mail by Deputy Press Secretary George Biagi and
addressed to "Dear Scripps Ranch Resident." (It is also supposedly being
sent to all of you that called or wrote in.) Deputy Fire Chief Rod Ballard
states "the community receives the same level of service on all
life-threatening calls as it did four years ago." He also states "not all
fire stations in the City of San Diego have an ambulance." (That's something
you want to read here and not find out while you're waiting for one.) What
he neglects to say in his letter is that the overall average response time
has lengthened and is now approaching ten minutes. Chief Ballard offers no
explanation of how an ambulance that is now several miles away in a heavily
congested zone has the same response time of one that was based here. He
also goes on to say that "every fire truck in the City of San Diego has at
least one paramedic on board." Tragically, as those of you that attended our
meeting last month heard, this was of very little or no help to some
residents. Also, no mention is made of how the city will cope with increased
demand for emergency services for the new Stonebridge development.
If you are as upset about this as I am, you may want to send a FAX to the
Mayor at (619) 236-7228 and another to Brian Maienschein at: (619) 238-0915.
I am willing to continue this fight if you are. I welcome your thoughts and
comments.
Thank you all for your support.
